Buying guide

Choosing gold for the bathroom

Pick one gold for each spot and repeat it where pieces are seen together: the toilet corner and the shower. Our golds differ by line, and each card names the tone in words: warm brushed gold on the round holder and the sets, soft matte gold, satin gold on the square holder, a matte gold accent on the squircle, rich gold on the partially rounded holder, soft brushed gold on the wall-mounted holder, a warm brushed gold in a champagne tone on the shower squeegee, and a warm copper-toned gold on the suction hooks.

If two gold pieces will stand side by side, buy them from the same line; a set of 2 or 3 keeps the same brushed gold in every bathroom. Shades can vary between product lines and screens, so compare the photos before you mix lines.

The holders are stainless steel canisters with a removable plastic inner cup. The squeegee has a stainless steel frame and a silicone blade, 10, 12 or 14 in wide. The hooks hold on smooth glass and tile with a suction cup and a locking knob, without drilling. Our faucet aerators come in chrome only, so gold stays at the toilet and in the shower. Everything is sold and shipped through Amazon.

Questions

Do all the golds match each other?

Not exactly. The tone differs from line to line, which is why every card names it in words, for example brushed gold that leans copper or a soft matte gold. For two pieces side by side, take them from the same line, or take a set of 2 or 3.

Will it go with brass or gold fixtures?

Compare your faucet and shower trim with the photos in daylight. When the tones are close, a gold holder, squeegee and hooks tie the room together; when they differ, keep gold at the toilet and let the faucet stand alone at the sink.

How do I keep the gold finish looking good?

Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and dry it. Keep abrasive pads, scouring powders and bleach off the finish; they can scratch or dull it.

Will the gold suction hooks stay up?

They are made for smooth, non-porous glass, mirror or glazed tile: clean and dry the surface, press the cup flat and turn the knob clockwise to lock it. They do not hold on wood, painted walls, textured tile or across a grout line. Installed this way, each hook holds up to 11 lb, the listing says.

Which squeegee width should I choose?

The blade is 10, 12 or 14 in wide. According to the listing, the 12 in clears a standard glass shower door in 2 to 3 pulls; the 10 in is the small size for mirrors and windows, and the 14 in the large size for walk-in shower glass.
