How to clean a toilet brush and holder
Rinse and drip-dry after each use, wash the inner cup once a week, wipe the canister with a damp cloth, and replace the brush when the bristles splay.
The short answer: after each use, rinse the brush in the clean flush and let it drip over the bowl before you put it back. Once a week, lift out the inner cup and wash the cup and the brush head. Wipe the outside of the holder with a soft, damp cloth and dry it.
After each use: rinse and drip-dry
- Flush, then swirl the brush in the clean water while the bowl refills.
- Tap the brush against the rim and hold it over the bowl for a minute so the water runs off.
- Put the brush back so the guard sits on the opening. A wet brush in a closed cup stays wet longer, so a short drip makes a difference.
Once a week: wash the inner cup and the head
Every NOVSIX steel holder has a removable inner cup that catches drips and lifts out for rinsing. You don't have to wash the whole canister in the sink.
- Lift out the brush and the inner cup.
- Empty the cup into the toilet and rinse it with hot water and a little dish soap. While it is out, look it over for cracks: one buyer received liners with cracks, and the water that leaked through corroded the steel holder over time.
- Soak only the bristles or the silicone head in a bucket of warm soapy water for about 10 minutes; keep the metal disc and handle out of the water. Skip bleach and acidic cleaners — they can mark the finish. Rinse well.
- Let the cup and the brush dry, then put them back.
Keep cleaning products for the bowl away from the outside of the holder: the finished outside needs a gentler routine (see below).

The holder: a soft cloth, no scouring
Wipe the canister and the guard with a soft, damp cloth and dry them, so water does not leave spots. Avoid abrasive pads, scouring powders and bleach on finished surfaces. Where our listings give care for the outside, they ask only for a damp cloth (the silver wall-mounted holder, for example, wipes clean with a soft damp cloth), so keep bleach for the bowl. Gentle cleaning is the safe choice for every finish we make.
A silicone brush
A flexible silicone head is rinsed the same way: swirl it in the clean flush and let it drip. Once a week, wash the head and the rounded cup with warm soapy water, rinse and let them dry before you put the brush back.
Where to keep the brush between cleanings
Stand the holder where it can dry: beside the toilet with a little air around it, not tight against a radiator or inside a closed cabinet. A wall-mounted holder keeps the floor clear, so you can mop without moving it.
A guest bathroom
A brush that is rarely used still needs a check. Once a week, lift out the inner cup and make sure it is dry; once a month, wash the cup and the head as above.
When to replace the brush
- The bristles have splayed or flattened and no longer reach under the rim.
- Stains or a smell stay after a weekly wash.
- The head wobbles. First re-snug the screw-in handle; if it still wobbles, replace the brush.
If your holder has a detachable head (our squircle holders, the white and graphite round holders and some of the sets), the head comes off the handle for cleaning. Spare heads aren’t sold separately on Amazon at the moment, so when the head wears out, replace the brush.
